Erneste Appell | What was the main idea of the collection? What is special about it? Or to put it this way: Why should a consumer decide to buy that sink and not one of the million others? Why this storage system
Monica Armani | Pianura is a very pure design, a timeless object, able to innovate, with exclusive details, using the light in a amazing way. The project borns from my idea to “connect” the bathroom with the sleeping area. I like to think that this huge top can reach out up to that room, giving a new perspective of the bedroom.
EA | Where do you get your inspiration for designing? Are different cultural background than your own an often used source of that inspiration? Art, architecture and Nature? Or is it more the rational world that inspires you with the developing technics, new materials and methods of construction?
MA | My work is a rarefaction, clean spaces (as much as possible) symmetries and simplicity of the lines to create calming spaces. My design is the consequence of this approach. Method and material research, etc are the second goals of my design… We can say that I found inspiration from the nature, I love the wood perspective, the “tidy” that element such as water and wind give to the territory.
EA | Designing in between fulfilling functionality and free, artistic form-finding, where do you see your work? Which one comes before the other, how do they come together?
MA | The rational of my work is the function, always. I love to see how throught my design, giving a new look to objects quite populars, I can create a recognizable and identifiable sign. This can be consider the artistic part of my work.
EA | What was special/difficulty in the process of creating this collection? Are there any technical diffiulties you had to master for mass production and how did you do it?
MA | Inside the formal semlicity, Pianura is a very technical collection. Generally speaking bathroom objects are complex projects. The idea behind Pianura was to include the light trying to get a very super clean solution. The troubles to solve were a lot, but working with a super R&S team as Boffi has, it made everything possible and in a very challenging way. Their knowledge is a very high standard and this allowed us to use all the technologies we need and wanted for this project, for example the folding to build the holders.
